Tyler (University of Texas at Tyler) -- The University of Texas at Tyler held the groundbreaking ceremony for the W.T. Brookshire Hall, which will house the UT Tyler Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

The ceremony was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 at the UT Tyler Robert R. Muntz Library, near the construction site.

Graduates from the UT Tyler Fisch College of Pharmacy will meet a need in the state’s workforce and be a major economic driver for this region. Our goal is to give deserving East Texas men and women who want a career in pharmacy the opportunity to prepare for it while staying close to home,” President Mabry said.

The three-story $26.5 million UT Tyler Brookshire Pharmacy Hall, which is designed to encourage student-faculty interaction and support the college’s innovative teaching methods, will provide students with various classrooms and study areas as well as skills labs for hands-on training. Other features will include student study areas, office spaces, research labs and rooftop terraces. Construction on the 60,000 square-foot building is expected to be completed May 2015.

The UT Tyler Fisch College of Pharmacy is an innovative, self-sustaining program that will provide East Texas students access to a course of study not currently available locally or regionally. The accreditation process is underway with the goal of accepting the first class of students in fall 2015.

UT Tyler will partner with UT Health Northeast on the new college’s conducted research.
