East Texans respond to Clippers owner lifetime ban, fine

TYLER (KYTX) - NBA playoff games are continuing as scheduled, But this playoff season, recorded comments made by NBA Clippers owner Donald Sterling, have cast a heavy shadow.
"We've all been talking about it, we've even been talking about it  in some of my classes," UT Tyler Basketball player Tre Potter.
"The Clippers are in a tight playoff battle and to have this controversy on the side is tough for them," said UT Tyler basketball player Joe Stephens.

The comments in the recorded conversation between sterling and his girlfriend have been called racist, and players and the public are thankful action was taken against Sterling.

"If you don't feel...then don't come to my games. Don't bring black people, and don't come," is what Sterling was heard saying in recorded conversation.
"He is a man in a powerful position and a man who should be embracing minorities not discriminating against them," said Magic Johnson during a press conference.

And now even the coach of the Clippers is weighing in on the decision about his owner.
"I felt the pressure on my players, everyone was waiting on them to give a response... So Adam responded and i thought that was the sigh of relief," said Doc Rivers.
East Texans believe justice was served by the NBA in punishing Sterling.
Potter said, "I think he got what he deserved. If they kept him around, that  would shed a negative light on the league."
Stephens said, with all the uproar...the NBA commissioner taking action was inevitable. But he believes there may still be hope for sterling's future in the public eye.

"There's  always redemption and he has a long way to go," Stephens said.

The players we talked to say this whole thing is more than race...it's about respect. And they're shocked that someone in this lofty position would do something like this.
