55 Universities Investigated for Sex Abuse Cases

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Federal investigators are checking whether 55 colleges and universities illegally handled sexual violence and harassment complaints by students.

The Education Department revealed the names of the schools Thursday. The schools include Princeton, UC Berkeley, Vanderbilt and Harvard, along with smaller state schools.  Two texas schools made the list -- Southern Methodist University in Dallas and the University of Texas - Pan American in Edinburg.

All are under investigation for violating "title nine," which requires schools to advise victims of their rights, investigate their claims and ensure their safety.
