Tyler Public Library is encouraging the community to go green with the launch of their very own seed library. The seed library is a good opportunity for a wide range of people to explore the joy of growing their own vegetables by borrowing seeds from the local library.
“This is a grand experiment and we look forward to seeing what grows from the efforts of the community,” said City Librarian Mary Vernau.
So whether you have years of experience or have just started this year, you can save seeds.
“Our seed library has a variety of non-GMO, non-hybrid, heirloom, and organic seeds,” said Vernau. “Each gardener can come to the library and ‘check out’ a variety of seeds before each growing season. At the end of the season, borrowers will be asked to ‘check in’ their seeds from the plants they have harvested.”
To use the seed library, you need a library card. If you don’t have a library card, it is free and easy to obtain. Just come to the Library at 201 S. College Avenue, Tyler, Texas, 75702.
