Good Shepherd renames award to honor late nurse

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview celebrated Nurses Week by renaming an award to honor a nurse who died this past November.
The Nurses Week awards ceremony was held this afternoon at the hospital.
Nurse Breann Hart was given the Gail Sandidge award for nursing excellence in clinical practice.
Sandidge was a registered nurse at the Ambulatory Surgical Center. She died when a man stabbed her and four other people.
Nurse Jill Pyle presented the award to Hart.
"Her incredible smile. Her laugh. The way she put patients at ease, and a willing to help others," Pyle says.
"She was a well-known person throughout the hospital. I believe that that alone says a whole lot about her personality and what kind of nurse she was, because everybody knew her," Hart says.
The ceremony was among several events held by Good Shepherd to honors its more than 950 nurses.
