We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

(KYTX) - During their upcoming meeting on May 13, the Tyler City Council will consider a recommendation for an incentive payable to Trane/Ingersoll Rand for jobs created as a result of moving a business line from Mexico to the Tyler plant.

“We had an opportunity to bring a small product line that had been manufactured in Monterey, Mexico back to Tyler,” said Trane Plant Manager Ted Crabtree.  “This was an excellent opportunity for us to stabilize the seasonality of our workforce by more fully loading our build lines.”

Trane has also added a new production line (Line B) that has shortened their production times and provided more capacity, thereby enhancing efficiency and flexibility. In addition, they have returned to powder painting top panels, a more durable finish, which will also result in additional stability in their workforce numbers.

The City’s retention incentive shall not exceed $192,500.  The incentive will be credited to the utility bill of Trane/Ingersoll Rand over four years in four annual equal installments of $48,125 each, beginning with calendar year 2014.  The incentive is contingent upon Trane/Ingersoll Rand attaining the specified job retention requirements, including retention of 55 regular full-time jobs valued at $61,920 per job (including benefits). The incentive will only be credited if Trane/Ingersoll Rand retains these jobs throughout the term of the agreement without a net reduction in total jobs.  The anticipated job retention includes the following positions:

*XM Product transfer from Mexico (1/21/14)                                  10

*Production Line B (2/17/14)                                                           31

*Paint (2/17/14) Conversion to Powder Coat Finishing                   14

                                                                                         TOTAL:  55

“Trane has been a primary employer in Tyler for 58 years employing more than 1,800 employees and has been a tremendous corporate citizen,” said Mayor Barbara Bass.  “We are pleased that we are able to use our incentive program to help retain valuable jobs here in Tyler.”
