TYLER (KYTX) - The moving season is here. May is National Moving Month: the busiest time of the year for Americans to move. With summer, graduation and other big milestones -- families all over are looking for moving companies to help.

As CBS 19's Katiera Winfrey shows us,  moving can be a hassle, but picking the wrong business to help, can cause bigger problems down the line.

When it's time to move, it's not the most exciting thing to do. Although packing and lifting are a drag, husband and wife Thomas and April McGraw said, they've never hired help.

"Typically i have a truck but i have another buddy who has a truck and offer him something to eat and drink you know," said Mr. Thomas.

While offering a plate of food is all the payment some need, people who hire help have to shell out quite a bit more.

That's why the BBB and the American Moving and Storage Association are offering tips.

"It doesn't matter how expensive the persons furniture is...we take care of it because it's their furniture."

Carylass Tave owns the BBB accredited business, Mr. T's Moving and Hauling.

"We do train them before they go on any truck."

The training his employees get is what is expected of all moving companies that are hired to do a job. However, the BBB says, that's not always the case.

Before hiring help, the bbb says you should:

-look for bbb accredited movers

-get three in-home estimates (over the phone bids aren't always binding)

-accept full value protection

I 2013, more than 93-hundred complaints ranging from damage...

"If something breaks you can't blame anyone but yourself," said Mrs. McGraw

Missing furniture, price increases...

"It's just more economical to do it your self."

And late deliveries were made against moving companies across the country.

This young couple admits while a family who has accumulated 30 years of stuff, may need extra help. At least for now, they can handle the job on their own.

The BBB says insurance is going to be your best friend once you've hired help.

The minimum insurance requirement of $0.60 a pound actually wouldn't cover the cost of an average flat screen TV if damaged in route --so you might want more than that.
