UPDATE: Charity Johnson's family reaches out to the people she fooled

Posted: Updated:
LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A woman who allegedly duped dozens of people into believing she was a 15-year-old high school student is still in jail.

Charity Johnson, 34, is accused of attending classes at a Longview school for months before being caught.

When Tamica Lincoln realized Johnson wasn't who she said she was, she called Longview Police to get her out of her apartment.

"I thought I had a young lady living in my house, but it turns out she was 34 years old," Lincoln said.

Lincoln says Johnson claimed most of her family was dead.

"I was just going off of what she told me. The thing about her parents being dead? My parents are dead, so I couldn't deny what she told me."

Johnson even attended classes at New Life Christian School in Longview. School officials say they didn't ask Johnson for an I.D. because she had someone claiming to be her guardian with her while enrolling.

Longview Police Officer Debra Stiles says before letting anyone live with you, be sure you do your homework and know what you're getting yourself into.

"Be very cautious about who you allow to come into your home," she said.

She says if it's a teen or a child you feel compassion for, there are other resources to help them.

"If it is a juvenile, they should have someone that is responsible for them," she said. "Notify police and we can get them the help they need."

She adds that if you question someone's identity be sure to check their I.D., compare it with yours to makes sure it has the same fonts, letter spacing and style.

"If you are that concerned about that, call police and we can help you."

Lincoln says Johnson's real family got in touch with her, and that this isn't the first time Johnson has fooled people into thinking she was someone else. She has allegedly been doing this since 2010.

Lincoln says she isn't wasting any time if Johnson comes back.

"She has been banned from the premises, and I will call police," she said.

Johnson has been charged with failure to I.D. and is being held in the Gregg County Jail on a $500 bond.
