11-Year-Old Lucy Li Qualifies for 2014 US Women's Open at Pinehurst

Updated:
(CNN)- Most 11-year-old kids are simply concerned with finishing their pre-algebra homework on time or mom stocking the freezer with pizza rolls.

Lucy Li, however, will be teeing it up at the U.S. Women's Open.

Morgan Pressel and Lexi Thompson both qualified for the U.S. Open at the age of 12 (2001 and 2007, respectively), but Li one-upped them Monday, becoming the youngest ever to book a spot in the tournament:

It has worked out pretty well for both of Li's predecessors. Neither made the cut as a preteen, but each has gone on to win a major, with Thompson's coming earlier this year.

The USGA's David Shefter added some more details about Li's amazing feat:

Ewan Murray of The Guardian also weighed in: "Li’s prominence is not sudden. In April, and immediately before the Masters, the Californian triumphed in her age group section of the inaugural Drive, Chip and Putt Championship at Augusta National. She progressed to the US Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship at the age of 10."

Li's rounds of 74 and 68 at Half Moon Bay put her seven strokes ahead of second-place Kathleen Scavo. Now, she'll head to Pinehurst and compete against Inbee Park, Stacy Lewis, Lydia Ko and the best women's golfers in the world.

I'm sure there won't be any pressure on the girl who was born after the first Harry Potter movie was released.

It would probably be too much to expect Li to make the cut, but this is an amazing story nonetheless. You can expect her to be the talk of the tournament once it rolls around in June.

No matter what happens at Pinehurst, though, it's quite clear that Li's future in this sport is blindingly bright.
