Longview High School places 2nd at state 5A academic meet

Released by Longview I.S.D.

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Behind a strong performance by its journalism students, the Longview High School UIL Academic Team has earned Texas’ 5A runner-up spot for 2014.

The Lobos competed against more than 40 top UIL academic teams from across the state and bettered most of them by more than 30 points. Southlake Carroll came closest to Longview with 52 points, compared with Longview’s 74. Dulles High School (Sugar Land) won the state meet with 89 points.

“We’re extremely proud of our academic UIL team and the outstanding coaches,” Superintendent Dr. James E. Wilcox said. “Every year, they just seem to reload and continue their winning ways.”

In qualifying for the state meet, Longview High School’s UIL Academic team first won its third consecutive District Championship. The two most recent championships came in district 12-5A. Longview is set to compete in 15-5A beginning next school year under the new UIL conference realignment system.
