DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Criminal charges against Dallas Cowboy Henry Melton have been dropped, at the request of the man he was accused of assaulting, according to prosecutors.

The charges were filed following a bar brawl in Grapevine on December 22. Melton, who was an NFL free agent at the time, was arrested at the Chill Sports Bar for allegedly punching the restaurant manager, Donald Payne.

Payne alleged Melton instigated the fight, but Melton claimed the suit was a “money grab” on the part of the bar owner.

Both parties had filed civil lawsuits regarding the incident and Melton was charged with a Class A misdemeanor.

According to a statement released by the Tarrant County District Attorney, the civil lawsuits have been settled. Payne has also requested that the criminal charges against Melton be dropped.

Read the full statement below:

"The District Attorney’s Office has been advised that all parties have settled their issues in regard to an altercation involving Henry Melton and Donald Payne without either party paying damages and that all civil proceedings have been dismissed. This office has also received a request from Mr. Payne that the criminal case against Mr. Melton be dropped. We, therefore, consider all matters to be amicably resolved and we have filed a motion with the court to dismiss the misdemeanor assault charge against Mr. Melton, which has been granted. This matter is now concluded."
