Noontime rally Thursday in Longview supporting minimum wage hike

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Workers continue to rally for a higher minimum wage.

Today in Longview, nearly a dozen people brought their grievances to a local store.

The event was brought together by Organizing for Action at Longview Embroidery on McCann Road. Store owner Kathy Loy says she refuses to pay her employees minimum wage and thinks Congress should act to raise the minimum to $10.10 an hour.

"If a little less in my pocket means paying a decent wage to my employees, I feel better as an employer and as a human being, and I know they feel respected as employees," Loy says.

Also speaking was Amy Gaines, a local nursing home worker who says a minimum wage hike would put 90 more dollars a week into her pocket, and thus into the local economy.
