We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

TYLER (KYTX) - Sergeant First Class Paul Martin, who was shot during the 2009 Fort Hood shooting spoke to people at Disciple Place Village Independent living. After being shot four times, he was one of 32 people injured. Thirteen people were killed during the shooting.

"He pulled his gun from under his ACU uniform and just started opening fire, pow pow just opening fire," Martin said speaking of Hasan

"God knew it wasn't my time, Major Cadorie was killed that day and Captain Gafney was killed that day, both of them sat on both sides of me, i sat in the middle."

Residents sat intently listening, as Martin replayed the deadly day. Martin said he had been waiting with a room full of others, to be medically released to be deployed to Afghanistan when the shooter opened fire.

Martin was shot four times, once in both arms, the leg and the back. As Hasan returned to shoot injured people again, Martin managed to get out of the building.

"The bullet sounded like a canon going off in this room, and I thought he just gonna shoot me again, because I'm getting out of this building."

He said, he's no hero, he's just lucky. The 13 that didn't make it, are the ones who should be honored.

Earlier this week, victim's families and survivors got some promising news. A bill which would re-classify the event as terrorism and award victims a purple heart -- could soon be passed. In the past, the bill had failed. But lawmakers are confident this time around it will.
