TYLER (KYTX) - To honor fallen firefighters EMS and police,  a group of about 40 fellow emergency workers are riding bicycles 750 miles for the annual "Brotherhood Ride."

CBS 19's Katiera Winfrey was there as they peddled into town. She shares why they ride to remember those lost in the line of duty.

With fire engines and sirens leading the way, the brotherhood rides.

On this mission, this group of 40 riders are tackling 750 miles, in the heat, from Louisiana to Houston.

"We can stand the heat, but it does get to a lot of us and pedaling every mile like that. Average day is 80-100 miles," said Brotherhood Ride founder Jeff Morse.

For 9 days, they'll travel and make stops in different Texas towns along the way to honor 19 fellow emergency workers who died in the line of duty.

"This is a walk in the park compared to what they went through to giving their lives in the line of duty," said rider Scott LaBree.

The Brotherhood Ride was created in 2007 as a way to remember the fallen, over the years, the riders have traveled more than 47-thousand miles through sixteen states, to honor nearly 450 men and women.

"Every year we get more and more people and really its just a brother hood between all of us," said a fellow rider.

Nineteen who dies in the line of duty in 20-13 are being honored, 12 from west, four from Houston, 2 from Bryan and one from Dallas.

These bike riding emergency workers, say when you're in the business of saving lives, dead is often inevitable, so from now until forever, they plan to keep riding.

"It's important tot let the family know we haven't forgotten," said another rider.

The "Brotherhood Ride" will make five more stops before ultimately making it to Houston by Friday to mark the anniversary of a deadly hotel fire that claimed the lives of four Houston firefighters last year.
