Tyler (KYTX) -- You may not live near a farm, so the farm is coming to you. It's becoming easier than ever to have fresh fruits and vegetables at your fingertips. Recognizing the demand for high-quality produce, big stores are making the extra effort to partner with local growers.

Signs are popping up at a store near you to "Buy Local."

"I buy turnip greens and Noonday onions. I love Noonday onions," Alba Stewart, a customer, said.

She just doesn't like what comes from a can.

"I have a big family. And we usually have fresh vegetables," Stewart said.
The increased demand for fresh fruits and vegetables, free of preservatives, is where the local farmer comes in.

"Making these products available is really like bringing local farmers' markets into the stores," David Claiborne, owner of The Tomato Shed, said.

He's been selling crops to Brookshire's Grocery Co. for years and says the best part is knowing where your food was grown.

"Many times they are harvested today and in stores tomorrow so they are certainly fresher, tastier, healthier," Claiborne said.

Brookshire's has developed relationships with different farmers all over the area, so it's not a hassle to get the food on your table.

"Often times it's smaller farmers who can supply 2 or 3 stores with their crops," Scott Player, Category Manager Fresh Foods for the Brookshire Grocery Co., said.

Between stores and farmers' markets, people looking for quality don't have to go far.
