TYLER (KYTX)- It was an exciting and late night for the TJC Apache Baseball Team. For the final time, Mike Carter Field in Tyler, hosted the NJCAA National Baseball Tournament and the Apaches made sure they went out in style.
After a two and half hour rain delay and lots of support from their fans, the Apaches got back on the field and built a 6 to 3 lead. They were able to hold on to Beat Cumberland College out of New Jersey and win the national title. They also won it back in 2007.
It was not a Cinderella Story because TJC proved they were the best team all week long, but it was just after midnight when they were able to dog pile on the pitcher's mound and then hoist up that national championship trophy.
Not only did the apaches win their second national baseball championship, but it was also the athletic program's 50th national title.
