Mom questions school bus policy after a parent boards bus

Posted: Updated:
Tyler (KYTX) --  A mother is calling attention to school bus policies, after she says her son felt threatened on his way home this week. Those inappropriate words she says came from a parent.

"A whole other level of bullying. Another level of intimidation," Shajuana Cicero, a Tyler mom, said.

On his school bus route home, Cicero admits her son Jacorey, got into a fight on the bus.

"My son was left with a wwhelpon his face," Cicero said.

The mom says it's what happened next that had her question procedures.

"The bus driver parked the bus, exited the bus to tell the young man's mom what happened and then allowed the mother to board the bus and threaten and intimidate my son," Cicero said.

Cicero says the other mom approached the bus, and took it too far.

"She got on the bus and starts yelling show your face! Show your face! If you don't show your face you don't have any b****" Cicero said.

Tyler ISD has it all on camera and reps explain the other parent initially had intentions to fix the situation.

"The mother was expecting an apology from the other student, and didn't get it. And she made a comment to the student that she shouldn't have made," John Bagert, TISD's Director of Transportation, said.

Bagert says the mom was never close enough to Jacorey to pose a physical threat, but corrective action has been taken against the bus driver.

"There was a protocol that was violated by allowing the parent to step onto the bus, regardless if it was the first step or all the way to the back of the bus it doesn't matter," Bagert said.

He wants parents to know how to handle situations like these.

"Either contact transportation department and discuss it with me on the phone or if they feel compelled to discuss something with the driver we do not want them coming up on the bus we want them coming on the driver's side window," Bagert said.
Since this incident from Tuesday was caught on camera, we asked Tyler ISD for the video. We were told it would take several days to process our request.

The bus driver was spoken to by superiors but no further disciplinary action is expected to be taken. The district has not released the name of the bus driver or the other parent -- so we were unable to speak with them. Both students were suspended from riding the bus for 3 days-- which is standard procedure for getting into a physical fight.
