90 Day Challenge Week 2: Gillian's Update

Well, this is the beginning of a big transformation, hopefully!  Justin and I are excited about this 90 day challenge from XTC Fitness and Sports and Let's Cook in Tyler.  They are guiding us physically and overhauling our nutrition with the goal of losing weight, toning up and getting fit.  It's a challenge we encourage you to do with us.  As the saying goes, "Why put off till tomorrow what you can do today." 

I think I am like a lot of middle-aged, working moms who find their day is beyond full, and working out has taken a back seat - which is already full with child car seats I might add.  I hope this will be a new beginning to find that lost energy I need to chase two little girls around!  

We will post weekly updates on how we are doing and what we are eating along with pictures. Yikes!  The challenge began with the joy of taking our measurements, weight and assessing our physical fitness, or rather lack there of in my case.  The actual challenge began May 19, so this is week two.

Performance Specialist and Trainer Tony Cruz puts us through intense 45 minutes workouts 3 times a week, plus we work out two to three times additionally on our own.  Tony is working to build our strength and endurance.   Have the first couple weeks been tough?  You bet!  Hard to walk some days.  However, I am starting to feel better, sleep better and have more energy.  I've dropped about 4 pounds so far, so it's a start.  But to be honest, the scale is not always our friend.  I am going by the fact that my clothes are starting to fit better.

We are sticking to a very strict diet of lean protein and vegetables provided by Let's Cook, which is just around the corner from XTC on South Broadway and owned by Kyna Clendenin. Craig Barlow is the Executive Chief with 20 years of experience in the food and beverage industry. The meals he prepares for us are carefully created to count our caloric intake.  Mine is about 1600 calories a day. They are delicious and include a lot of variety.  For example, the lunch and dinner entrees may consist of such meats as buffalo, chicken, beef and pork.  A typical breakfast might include Greek yogurt or eggs and potatoes. I have already learned that the key to watching your diet is to plan ahead.  Anyone can do it!  If you will just think about your meals and plan accordingly, you will be less likely to take the easy route and go to the drive-through.
