(CBS) - Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki will deliver an address to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans today.
That's despite growing calls for his resignation. The remarks follow Wednesday's preliminary report, alleging delayed care and falsified records throughout the VA system. The White House says it finds the report extremely troubling and is awaiting Shinseki's internal report today. A preliminary report released by the Inspector General Wednesday confirmed delays in care for veterans throughout the VA system. Shinseki met privately with veterans groups and lawmakers Thursday.
At the VA Medical Center in Phoenix, where up to 40 vets may have died waiting for care, the VA's inspector general found 1,700 vets were not even put on an official waiting list after requesting appointments. Shinseki reassured those he met with Thursday, he'll make sure they get immediate care.
