Walk A Mile in Her Shoes: Men wear high heels in fight against domestic violence

Posted: Updated:

ATHENS (KYTX) - A group of Henderson County's finest, donned red high heels to strut their stuff in the annual " Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" benefit march. The men came together for a playful opportunity, to bring awareness to a serious issue. CBS 19's Katiera Winfrey was there as men marched against sexual violence against women.

The click clack of red high heels echo off the ground in downtown Athens.

The men wearing them. Are taking a big step out of their comfort zone, but it's okay because it's for a great cause.

"I can't even think of a better cause for men getting together to say we do not support violence of any kind," said Jeff Weinstein participated.

He was one of the many fire-fighters, police officers, city leaders, dads and brother, who participated the the second, East Texas Crisis Center "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event.

"It speaks volume that the men will stand up and stand up against other men," said Kim Walker with the East Texas Crisis Center.

By participating, the men are standing up against abuse, and raising money to help women in crisis.

"We have a definitely problem in Henderson county with domestic violence and sexual assault hopefully we keep doing this year after year and enough people stand up and enough people get behind it then we will make a difference," said Walker.

National Walk a Mile in Her Shoes statistics show: every two minutes someone in America is raped, nd one in six American women are victims of sexual assault.

"Even though we're having a little fun the message is getting out that we can make a difference and i think we make a difference every time we say enough is enough no more violence," said Weinstein.
