(TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Thousands of motorcycle riders are expected to descend on Tyler next year for the 2015 HOG Rally.

Tyler has won the bid for the rally after beating out Frisco to host the rally next year, according to a news release. Shari Rickman, general manager and vice president at the Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Bennie Latch, owner of Latch Lonestar Harley Davidson, among other representatives, were in Abilene last month and won the bid, the news release reads. The rally is scheduled for May 14-17, 2015, with convention sites at Harvey Convention Center, 2000 W. Front St., and Latch Lonestar Harley Davidson, 1211 S. SE Loop 323.

Holli Conley, marketing/communication manager with the Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau, said at least 3,000 motorcycle riders are expected to attend.

She said Ms. Rickman indicated that people in Abilene were excited that Tyler won the bid.

“Attendance is expected to be high. They just love East Texas and this area and riding around,” Ms. Conley said.

Ms. Rickman said in a news release, "We are very excited that this group is coming back to Tyler and bringing such a large number of people. When the riders are in town they have a history of spending a lot money at our hotels, restaurants and many other businesses around town. It's great for our local economy."

The last time Tyler hosted the rally was in 2003. Ms. Conley estimated that around 2,000 attended that year.
