East Texans hope S.A.V.E. movement can curb violence, retaliation

MARSHALL (KYTX) - Recent homicides and other acts of violence have left hundreds of East Texas families and friends in mourning already this year.

One group of East Texans wants to help the healing, and remind us all to stay vigilant against crime.

The movement is being called S.A.V.E., or Stand Against Violence Everyday. Organizers Demetria McFarland says a weekend rally of events starts June 13 in Marshall, beginning with a Friday night run- and walk-a-thon at Marshall City Park near Good Shepherd Medical Center-Marshall that will include a prayer rally, all between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

On Saturday, June 14, a service will be held at First Baptist Church, at 405 W. Austin Street in Marshall, in which victims will give impact statements about their losses.

To find out more, call McFarland at 903-633-2406.
