Tyler Fire Department press release:

TYLER (KYTX) - The City of Tyler Fire Department welcomed the newest additions to its fleet of emergency vehicles with a celebration in front of Fire Station 5, 1532 S. Bennett Ave., on Friday, June 6. The presentation began at 10:30 a.m. with remarks by Tyler Mayor Martin Heines, along with Tyler Fire Chief Tim Johnson.

This new equipment will replace some of the fleet’s older vehicles and includes a new fire engine and two aerial ladder trucks. These units will enhance the service capabilities to the citizens while also outfitting firefighters with state-of-the-art equipment and technologies designed with safety in mind.

The vehicles were custom-built by Spartan ERV to specifications outlined by the Department. Firefighters were heavily involved in the design process to ensure that the apparatus will meet current and future needs of the community. Firefighters have trained extensively on the new equipment.

The new ladder trucks will replace the current equipment located at Stations 1 and 2, with the new engine replacing the current Engine 4. This purchase completes the Department’s goal to standardize its fleet across the City, and is part of the established vehicle replacement program.

Each of the new aerial trucks are equipped with:

· A 103-foot ladder compared to the current truck’s 75-foot ladder.

· 1,500 gallon per minute (GPM) pumps and carry 500 gallons of water.

· More storage space to accommodate heavy rescue equipment, including equipment for vehicle extrication, swift water rescue, confined space rescue, trench rescue, and high-angle rescue.

The new Engine 4 is equipped with:

a 1,500 GPM pump and a 500 gallon water tank,A compressed air foam system (CAFS), which is the first of its kind in the City of Tyler and will greatly enhance the effectiveness of firefighting operations, while also significantly reducing the potential for water and property damage.

“The Tyler Fire Department is committed to providing world class emergency services to our citizens”, said Fire Chief Tim Johnson. “This new equipment will assist our firefighters in accomplishing our mission of protecting lives and property.”
