Lufkin Police arrest couple on aggravated assault charges

From the Lufkin Police Department

Officers responded to the 200 blk of Percy Simond in reference to a disturbance between Lester R. Murphy and  Shynecia L. Moreland.

Apparently, during the disturbance, Murphy hit Moreland in the mouth and began pulling her hair out. She was able to get free and went and got a knife out of the kitchen and Murphy had also retrieved a metal chair. Moreland then swung the knife, cutting Murphy on his left arm.

According to Murphy, he was leaving the house and forgot something, so he went back inside. As he was coming back inside, Moreland shut the door on his hand and began pulling his hair. He pushed Moreland off him and she went and got the knife, and he grabbed the chair and went outside and broke the window of Moreland’s car.

Officers located a small amount of marijuana in Moreland’s house and she was charged with that, as well as another warrant for Misdemeanor Criminal Mischief (unrelated to this call). Murphy’s cut appeared superficial, and the report did not state that he had to have medical attention.
