Heavy rain and thunderstorms move into East Texas

Posted: Updated:
(KYTX) - Lightning and heavy rainfall are the main concerns today. Wind Gusts of 35-40 mph are also possible along the leading edge of a line of rain and possible thunderstorms Monday.

Additional rain/t-storms are dropping along the Red River northwest of DFW and will continue to push into East Texas throughout the day.

Heavy rain, isolated strong/severe t-storms and small hail will be possible across East Texas, especially Monday afternoon.

Rain chances are at a 60% chance Monday, tapering off to a 30% chance Monday tonight.

An upper low over the central plains is responsible for the rain/t-storms. This low is expected to drop slowly southeast through midweek, causing another chance of rain/t-storms Monday night and into Tuesday morning.

Rain chances should drop off significantly after Tuesady morning, with one more disturbance expected on Thursday afternoon into Friday morning as the upper low moves E.S.E. into the lower Mississippi Valley and Tennessee Valley by late in the week.

Highs will rebound into the upper 80's Tuesday, back into the lower 90's by Thursday.

For now, next weekend looks dry, with highs in the lower 90's.
