Update: Power outages reported as storms rolled through East Texas

Posted: Updated:
Update: Less than 1500 residents in East Texas are still without power as of Monday afternoon, according to Oncor reps.
At the height of the storm this morning, about 3,000 people in the Tyler area experienced outages.

"I would say we deal with it at least 3 or 4 times a year," Kasandra McCarty, a mother and Smith County resident, said.

Power outages are nothing new for her family, but today one came at a bad time.

"I just spent about $300 in groceries just filled the freezer with microwaveable stuff the kids like corn dogs and hot pockets and hamburger meat," McCarty said.

McCarty lives off Old Noonday road in Smith County, and came home from the store to a headache.
"It's really inconvenient we have to deal with this, we've called the power company and we don't know what's going on with it," McCarty said.

Storms rolled into East Texas about 8:30 this morning, hitting homes like McCarty's.

"Anytime you get wind and a little bit of rain and combination of trees and power lines we see outages," Charles Hill, with Oncor, said.

SWEPCO reported just under 400 customers without power in Wood and Rusk counties. For Oncor, it was thousands in the North Tyler area, Lindale, and around Whitehouse.
