KILGORE (KILGORE NEWS HERALD)- A 15-year-old boy has been transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries after accidentally being shot with a .22-caliber handgun Monday afternoon.

Kilgore Assistant Police Chief Roman Roberson said the shooting occurred shortly after 1 p.m. in the 3000 block of Mustang Drive off FM 349.

“We believe at this point it’s an accidental shooting … involving three juveniles with a handgun,” Roberson said.

Two other boys, ages 10 and 14, were involved in the incident, he noted, which left the victim with a gunshot wound to his torso.

The 15-year-old was treated and taken from the scene by Champion EMS for further treatment at a Good Shepherd Medical Center facility.

Roberson did not know how the three boys were related but said the shooting occurred in their grandmother’s residence on Mustang.

The remaining two boys are in the custody of their guardians, he said.
