Two arrested in separate vehicle pursuits in Palestine

PALESTINE, TX. (KYTX) - Officers from the Palestine Police Department were involved in two unrelated vehicle pursuits over the weekend, each resulting in the arrest of both drivers for evading arrest with a vehicle.

The first pursuit, which occurred on June 7th, at 2:06 a.m. in the 300 Blk. of E. Crawford, was initiated when Cpl. Matt Kerr, while on patrol, came upon a vehicle which was blocking traffic in the area.

The vehicle moved forward, but sideswiped a parked vehicle. The officer then attempted to make a traffic stop, at which time the driver of the vehicle accelerated away and turned Northbound into a private driveway, near the Ranch House building.

The driver of the vehicle then continued to evade police stopping momentarily at the end of the drive and E. Lacy. The vehicle finally yielded at E. Lacy at Fowler streets. An investigation also resulted in the arrest of the driver, identified as 31-year-old Omar Salinas. He was charged with DWI, 2nd degree felony.

The second pursuit occurred on June 8th shortly before 4:00 pm in the 3400 block of W. Oak at the Clean Scene Car Wash.

The suspect later identified as 30-year-old Hunter Sheridan, was reported as having threatened to shoot his ex-wife’s parent’s and then himself, if she did not come and talk to him in person.

Upon attempting to contact him, the driver fled from police in a Gray Ford Extended Cab Ranger Pick-up and headed westbound on W. Oak, onto Tile Factory, then out to FM 1990, before wrecking out on ACR 2140.

Sgt. Gabriel Green, Cpl. Brian Lintner, Ptl. Jason Lewis, and Ptl. Marcos Lara were involved in the pursuit and arrest of the suspect, who attempted to flee into the woods upon wrecking his vehicle.

During the inventory of the vehicle, Officers also discovered a quantity of Methamphetamine and equipment, which resulted in the driver being additionally charged with Manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.

Although ammunition was found in the vehicle, no firearm was discovered at the scene.

No one was injured as a result of either pursuit.
