Man connected to April triple homicide back in jail for attacking officer

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A Panola County man out on bond for his involvement in an April 6 shooting that left three people dead in Longview is back in jail, this time for striking an officer with a brick to get escape an arrest warrant.

That man is 22-year-old Jacorey Dewayne Williams, of DeBerry. Investigators say Williams was approached Sunday night by a Carthage police officer on West Panola Street. The officer recognized Williams as having a local misdemeanor arrest warrant, but when he tried to handcuff Williams, the suspect escaped from capture, then picked up a brick and threw it at the officer's face. The officer deflected it with his arm, but he sustained bruising while Williams hopped a fence and got away.

According to Carthage police this morning, Williams has been apprehended and taken to the Panola County Jail. He's charged with aggravated assault of a public servant and evading arrest.

On April 6, Williams was arrested in Longview following a shooting on Beaumont Street that left three people dead. Investigators said Williams tossed a weapon used in the shooting from the supposed getaway car, but he later led authorities to the firearm. He was charged with tampering with evidence with the intent to impair or impede an investigation, and he was released from the Gregg County Jail that same day on $5,000 bond.

Williams new bond in Panola County has not been set, and he has not been indicted on his Gregg County charge.
