Texas State Aquarium Urges People to Help Keep Endangered Turtles Safe

Updated:

CORPUS CHRISTI (KYTX)-Summer time means more people will be frequenting beaches and bays, but we must also remember that endangered sea turtles inhabit those waters.

Marine experts with the Texas State Aquarium say to always dispose of your trash because it could end up in our waters and the turtles could eat the trash, causing physical damage.

Turtle experts also ask boaters to use caution when out in the water and jetties.

"Slowing down in no wake zones can help boaters avoid hitting the endangered turtles with their boats and propellers," says Carol Haley with the Texas State Aquarium.

If you come across a sea turtle or nest experts say not to touch them, but to call the National Sea Shore at at 866-turtle-5.
