New education law puts higher value on teachers with multiple certifications, superintendent says

LIBERTY CITY (KYTX) - East Texas educators say a new state law is increasing demand for teachers certified to teach as many courses as they can.

House Bill 5 is designed to give high school students the freedom to choose a path that either prepares them for college, or to enter the workforce right after graduation.

Students who complete a course earn endorsements for their resume.

Sabine I.S.D. Superintendent Stacey Bryce says that expands the number and variety of courses that schools can offer.

"Endorsements are a big issue with House Bill 5. So, the more options that the kids have, the better it is for them. An so, therefore, the more certifications that teachers have, it just benefits the kids that much more."

With House Bill 5, Bryce says it places a high value on teachers who can teach a wide array of subjects.
