Waco police said the body of LaCharles Montgomery was recovered by rescue crews on Friday night.

Search efforts continued all day and a shirt believed to belong to Montgomery was found.

Police won't say exactly where they made the discovery, but they say it isn't far from where they found Montgomery's car.

Friends of the victim gathered at Midway High School to comfort one another and share fond memories of Montgomery.

They describe him as a great friend who was always there for others.

Montgomery's body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy.

UPDATE: June 13, 2014, 10:55 a.m.

At 12:30 a.m. on Friday, a teen’s car was swept away by floodwaters near the intersection of Hewitt Drive and Mars Drive in Waco.

Eighteen-year-old LaCharles Montgomery’s vehicle floated down the creek near Midway High School’s soccer fields.

While he was floating away, he called family and friends. During his phone call with 911, his phone died.

Officials say that when they responded to the scene, the water was extremely high. One official said that he had never seen the water that high on Hewitt Drive and described it as “almost like a river.”

Because it was nighttime, the search was tough without any light.

Around daybreak, the McLennan County Sheriff’s helicopter was sent out to search for Montgomery.

Almost two miles away, Montgomery’Volkswagen Passat was found.

They found the windows to be broken in the car, but Montgomery was not inside.

Officials moved to search and recovery mode. Game wardens, firefighters, officers, and bloodhounds were all searching for Montgomery.

LaCharles Montgomery graduated this past Saturday. He played football in high school and planned to go to college.

The investigation is still ongoing.

We will bring you more details when they become available.

Waco Police are actively searching at this hour for a 18 year-old male after his car was swept into a creek of water.
