Victim of Early June Shooting in Belton Dies

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) -- Officials confirmed Saturday morning that 41-year-old Charles Hermann died from wounds received during a shooting in Belton earlier this month.

Belton police responded to the shooting that occurred on Wednesday, June 4, a little after 9 p.m. around Spur 7560 FM 2410. The shooter was still on the scene when police arrived.

The shooter, who was later identified as 61-year-old Karl Lee Wiggins, was asked by officers to drop his gun.  Police were prompted to shoot Wiggins after he wouldn't follow commands and turned towards the officers.

Both Wiggins and Hermann were transported to Scott and White in Temple.

The Bell County District Attorney charged Wiggins with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and his bond was set at $100,000 on June 6.

He remains in custody at Scott and White.

Hermann's body is being taken to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas for autopsy.
