More details revealed in shooting that leaves Mineola teen dead

MINEOLA (KYTX) - A shooting behind a Mineola convenience store has left one person dead and another in custody.

According to Mineola Police, the shooting took place in the alley behind the EZ Mart located at 115 North Pacific, Sunday June 15, 2014 at approximately 11:27 p.m. 

When police arrived, officers found a black male lying in the alley with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the neck.

Police said a white male was also at the scene holding a handgun. He was arrested and the handgun confiscated.

Investigators have now determined the victim was not involved an argument that took place inside the store.

Police identify the shooting victim as 19-year-old Christopher James Griffen of Mineola. He died from his injuries while awaiting air transport to a local hospital.

Arrested at the scene was 41-year-old Jason Russell Walters of Mineola. He is charged with murder and booked into the Wood County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

The investigation continues.
