Liberty City welcomes U.S. Army specialist back home

LIBERTY CITY (KYTX) - East Texans packed a restaurant parking lot this morning to surprise a local soldier.

U.S. Army Specialist Christopher O'Neal is a Liberty City native who graduated from Sabine High School.
He's served the past two years in South Korea.

O'Neal tells CBS 19, he thought he was just coming to Los Enchiladas restaurant for a Tex-Mex lunch -- but was surprised when his meal started with more than chips and salsa.

"I was not expecting that. We pulled up, and I asked my mom, 'Is this for Fourth of July weekend?' She said, 'No,' and then I seen everybody standing out in the parking lot," O'Neal says. "Definitely a surprise."

Before South Korea, Spc. O'Neal served in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and in South Carolina.

The group Welcome Home Soldiers joined family and friends in welcoming him back to Gregg County.
