(KCEN) -- A former Killeen High School teacher was arrested after having an improper relationship with a student. Officers were notified of a teacher who was having a sexual relationship with a student who was attending Killeen High School between September 2013 and June 2014.

After an investigation, they found that the teacher was having a continuous sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student for nine months.

When KISD administrators learned of the findings from the investigation, they placed the teacher on administrative leave on February 14.

On Wednesday, the case was reviewed and officers arrested 55-year-old Samuel Antonio Caines Jr.

He was transported to the Killeen City Jail where he was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke on Thursday. His bond was set at $100,000, but Caines was later released after posting bond.

Additional charges are pending after further review by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.

Caines is no longer employed with the Killeen Independent School District.
