Suspect in Little River-Academy Shooting Was Former Officer

 (KCEN) -- The suspect in the Little River-Academy shooting has a history in law enforcement.

Police records show that David Risner was a former officer in Van Zandt County, Texas.

The records show that he was a police officer for 17 years, and also served as a jailer for almost a year and a half. It lists four different police departments as well as the Van Zandt Sheriff's Department.

His service history:

  • Peace Officer: Grand Saline Police Department - 7 years, 11 months
  • Peace Officer: Gun Barrel City Police Department - 1 month
  • Peace Officer: Edgewood Police Department - 3 years, 4 months
  • Peace Officer: Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office - 2 years, 4 months
  • Peace Officer: Gun Barrel City Police Department - 3 years, 2 months
  • Peace Officer: Edgewood Police Department - 4 months
  • Peace Officer: Wills Point Police Department - 3 months
  • Jailer: Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office - 1 year, 5 months


Risner was arrested Thursday after allegedly shooting and killing Little River-Academy Police Chief Lee Dixon.

He was booked in the Bell County Jail and charges are still pending.
