Skeletal remains found in San Augustine County back in March have been identified as a Jacksonville woman who went missing nearly eight years ago.

Shunte Coleman was just 26 years old when she vanished in 2006, leaving behind two small children. But she wasn't the only woman who mysteriously disappeared that year. Terri Reyes vanished shortly after, and her body was also found in San Augustine County just one month later.

Alvin Boykin was one of the last people to see the Coleman alive.

"She said she was going to go down to some guy's house that lived down here on the corner, and I haven't seen her from that day to this day," he said.

He says he took in Coleman -- and others -- when they needed a place to stay. But when she vanished, he says he didn't think much of it because it wasn't unusual for her to wander off for days at a time.

"Nothing weird about that," he said. "On the weekends from Friday until Monday, it was nothing for me not to realize where most of them were."

Boykin says Coleman was a good person who got caught up with the wrong crowd.

"Shunte and most other people, they were nice people," he said, "They just had been running around with people and picked up habits that were not good for them."

Three weeks after Coleman's disappearance, Reyes was reported missing.

Both women have ties to former Jacksonville police officer, Larry Pugh. At the time, Pugh was being investigated on sexual assault charges, and both women were scheduled to testify against him. He later pleaded guilty to sexual assault charges and was sentenced to federal prison.

It's unclear if Pugh is being looked at as a possible suspect in her or Reyes' deaths. He is set to be released from prison in 2018.

Police still don't know how Coleman died. The case is under investigation.

CBS19 reached out to the Jacksonville Police Department and the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office, but no one was available to speak about the case.
