Fundraiser Raises Money for Police Families

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) -- Four law enforcement officers have been killed while on duty in Bell County over the last year.

It's a sobering stat for anyone wearing the badge and to the communities they serve.

Now one group is raising money to support two officers shot last month.

Three bands are ready to rock at the Harker Heights Event Center for a good cause... bringing in fans and funds for the hurting families in Bell County.

It's a pretty simple mission statement.

"We do stuff like this to help the families out," said John Ivey, president of the Posse Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. "It's an honor and it's a pleasure."

The Posse Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club is putting on the 'In the Line of Duty' benefit show.

Ivey is a cop in Gatesville. The four officers lost in the last year here hits a little too close to home.

"It sort of brings us back to reality of you know every time we put that uniform on, we might not come home to our families," said Ivey.

They've done this in the past but these funds go to the family of Killeen Detective Chuck Dinwiddie killed in the line last month. It'll also help Officer Odis Denton Recover. He was wounded in the same incident.

"Here recently, it's been absolutely hard on the communities," Ivey continued.

So tonight … a little helping hand, a long afternoon of prep work and sound check after sound check

And it's almost time for the first band to take the stage. But these guys don't forget … why they're here.
