New group aims to legalize marijuana

Posted: Updated:
LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A group wanting to legalize marijuana in Texas formed its first branch in East Texas, today.  The group Northeast Texas NORML is a part of the national movement called NORML and gained support from East Texans on the first day.

The group met at Hinsley Park to share stories. Many want it legal for medical reasons, but the group also supports legalization for recreational use. Board Member Hope May says the
groups objectives are to spread the word via social media, t-shirts, and wrist bands.

"Seeing my best friend, Nicole in so much pain, and having a hard time to function was hard to look at. She had breast cancer and she was in pain all the time," says May.

The group stresses that it does not condone any illegal activity. The group says it hopes to have legislation on ballots by the end of 2015.
