Longview news: LISD meets tonight; Pride party draws hundreds; White Oak man jailed on Harrison Co. assault charges

Posted: Updated:
LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A month ago, Longview ISD Assistant Superintendent Horace Williams would become l-i-s-d's next leader. Monday night, either he gets the job or the district is starting its search from scratch.

In May, Williams was tabbed as the only finalist to replace dr. James Wilcox, who says he's retiring in January after eight years as Longview's superintendent.

A former trustee has said contract negotiations between the school board and Williams led to disagreement among trustees, who at one point were unanimous in picking Williams.A school board meeting starts at 6:30 tonight at the Education Support Center on Young Street.

Organizers of Longview's first-ever gay pride celebration on Friday say the event drew as many as 1,000 people.

A local chapter for PFLAG, or Parents, Family and Friends or Lesbians and Gays, says people came from as far as Dallas and Shreveport to help celebrate happiness and love at the city's Heritage Plaza.

The group hopes to make next year's celebration even bigger.

A white oak man is in the Gregg County Jail on multiple assault charges out of Harrison County.

Longview police arrested 37-year-old Wesley Ryan Davis on Saturday.

He's being held without bond on allegations of sexual assault and family violence in which he injured someone.

No more information has been released about those charges.

Tonight at six -- we'll tell you about an east texas teen who is turning his life around -- thanks in part to a program here in longview for non-traditional students.
