Residents Continue Cleanup After Sunday Night Storms

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) --  China Spring saw some of the worst flooding Sunday. Several roads were closed and some residents had to battle the water from coming inside their home.

The rain was so heavy and the wind so strong that even massive trees couldn't survive Mother Nature's fury.

The storm pounded China Spring yesterday afternoon as streets and yards were turned into lakes. Police shut down several roads because of standing water.

Luckily there were no reported injuries from this storm. Even more lucky given the fact that many residents were caught off guard by this late June storm.

"You could hear the wind blowing in and hear the storm come," said resident Christina Finazzo, who lost a tree in her yard.  "And then all of a sudden we just heard psht."

"Neighbors from across the street, and up the street and down the street were all over here," said resident Ken Butler. "In their flip flops and shorts with towels, and blankets and vacuums."

Some parts of the China Spring saw close to 5-inches of rain yesterday with much of that coming in just one hour.

Last night's powerful wind and rain knocked out power for four thousand Waco residents.

And this morning -- half of them were still in the dark. Oncor crews were out all night fixing downed power lines.

Many of the areas had to wait until morning because it was too dark to see the damage.

And for city workers -- it was a busy day picking up streets that were littered with tree limbs.

Waco residents say winds felt as strong as forty to fifty miles per hour.

Oncor crews hope to have all power restored by the end of the day.
