Nighthawk's new IDM solution can be used when disconnect or other AMI features are needed to operate within existing system wide IDM installations.

Coppell, Texas (PRWEB) June 24, 2014

Nighthawk announces the introduction of the IDM version of their RDM940 and RDM950 disconnect meters. The Nighthawk technology provides a range of advanced features including reads on demand, remote disconnect/reconnect, tamper and outage detection and now Interval Data Messaging or IDM.

IDM metering devices provide more data than the standard SCM used in most utility devices. The IDM format allows for the reporting of interval use data in addition to or instead of the Standard Consumption Message, SCM. The Nighthawk IDM solution can be used when disconnected or other AMI features are needed to operate within existing system wide IDM installations reporting back to the installed collectors.

Existing IDM, AMR meters provide enhanced usage reporting however they are still one way devices. The Nighthawk solution allows IDM users to add full two-way capabilities, including disconnect, where AMI features are needed greatly enhancing the functionality of the overall system. Nighthawk will report detailed interval consumption information through the installed field collectors but will utilize its cellular radio capability for all other advanced features, especially remote cellular disconnect, without installation of any additional communication equipment.

This interval data is crucial to providing accurate Time-Of-Use (TOU) data and fulfilling Big Data requirements. The Interval Data Messaging provided by these meters provides utilities with the information they need to enable voltage conservation programs, consumer management of on peak/off-peak use and detailed data analysis of usage patterns. Many utilities find that the rich data provided by IDM meters allow them to better forecast and manage their peak power needs.

Harnessing the resources of the existing public cellular communication infrastructure, the Nighthawk RDM solution with bi-directional communications allows utilities currently using an IDM network to have true two-way capability and for the first time allow them to issue commands to the meter. In addition, the Nighthawk RDM solution is the only meter that will give existing IDM users the ability to add Prepay Metering to their customer base.

Nighthawk products use Utility WebConnect, an award-winning Cloud-based Web application running 24/7, and connected to multiple communications gateways, both issuing commands to remote devices and receiving information from them. Utility WebConnect interoperates directly over the Web or via automated data uploads with most utility billing systems. Even when utility personnel are not online, Utility WebConnect is collecting meter readings, issuing automated batch commands to devices and alerting utility personnel of alarming events via cellular text messages or email.
