Funeral Service for Little River-Academy Police Chief Lee Dixon

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Hundreds gathered Thursday morning to remember Littler River-Academy Police Chief Lee Dixon.

On Thursday, Chief Dixon's funeral was held at 10 a.m. at the Temple Bible Church.

Following the service, a procession took Dixon to the Bell County Expo Center, where he received full police honors.

Chief Dixon was killed on June 19 in the line of duty.

Dixon was called to Allison Street and West Main in Little River-Academy after reports of a man with a gun at 5:11 p.m. on that Thursday. He was asked if he needed help first and responded no, but later called for backup. Not long after he called for backup that calls started coming in for a shooting.

Dixon was shot twice with a shotgun, according to the arrest affidavit.

Fifty-seven-year-old David Risner was charged on Friday, June 20, with capital murder.

Chief Dixon took the reins at the Little River-Academy Police Department one month ago, but he was no stranger there. He had briefly served as the police chief there eight years ago before moving to Cameron to work as a Milam County sheriff's deputy. People in Academy knew him and they were thrilled to have him back.
