First Officer to Die in Line of Duty from Tyler Police Department is Remembered

TYLER (KYTX)- Malcom J. Buie, was the first Officer from Tyler Police Department to die in the line of duty, 68 years ago today.

On the morning of June 26, Buie, 46, boarded a bus at W. Erwin and N. Broadway to settle a dispute. As he exited the bus, thinking the dispute was over, a man stabbed Buie in the chest.

The suspect fled the scene and touched off the largest manhunt in Texas. He was captured days later and convicted for Officer Buie’s death.

The Tyler Police Department shall never forget your sacrifice.
