Honoring Chief Dixon: Volunteer Firefighters Paint Memorial on Flag Pole Base

Posted: Updated:
(KCEN) -- A little more than a week after Little River-Academy Police Chief Lee Dixon was shot and killed by a suspect, permanent memorials are taking shape.

The city last week placed a wreath honoring Dixon on the city offices building. Now firefighters are painting their well-worn flag pole to remember the police chief's sacrifice.

The painting includes Dixon's name, a police badge, and his end-of-watch date, June 19, 2014.

The plan is to complete the project (painting the rest of the pole silver) once they raise a little more money.

If you'd like to donate to the department, mail to: P.O. Box 531, Little River, TX 76554, or call 254-982-4251.
