UPDATE: July 3, 2014

As of this date investigators believe that the three men were in the farm shop and filling large plastic bags with a gas commonly used in welding and cutting of steel, acetylene. This gas is extremely combustible. They were placing the bags filled with gas into the large plastic container and was going to transport them out into a field and ignite them just to see the explosion. At some point during the filling of these bags something sparked; setting off the acetylene, causing a large explosion killing one man and seriously injuring the other two.

The identity of the other two men involved is:

Steve Langenegger, 50 years old and Jan Vanmerwe, 24 years old. Both are currently still in hospitals and are in serious condition.

This case will remain open until the forensic finding are available from the ATF. The investigation is continuing.
