Belton Fourth Of July Parade

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- Belton's Fourth of July Parade is ranked one of the best in the nation with more than 30,000 people crowding the streets to show their American pride.

And there was no shortage of red, white and blue as people clapped and cheered  for the soldiers who walked by. "It's virtually indescribably. It's the best feeling in the world," Marine Corp veteran Patrick Bilderback said as people gave a standing ovation for the service men and women. "The ones who have served understand that feeling."

Bilderback tries to make it to the Belton Parade each year with his family. But for him it's more than just floats and fireworks. "The sacrifices that people have made for this country, that's what people need to know, the sacrifices men and women have made for this country for us to have the freedoms we do have," he said.

That's something Navy veteran Jeffery Schels tries to instill into his two young children. "We come out here every year to show them it's important to celebrate being Americans and living in the best country," Schels said.

For both veterans it's an overwhelming sight to see so many patriotic people at the parade, showing their support for those who truly make America the home of the free and brave.
