Major Accident on I-35 in Bell County, Police Officer Hit

The motor officer involved in the crash was William Pettyjohn.

Officer Pettyjohn is a 14-year veteran of the Temple Police Department.

He was transported to Scott and White Hospital where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.

Officer Pettyjohn stated he is “humbled and thankful for all the kind words, thoughts, and prayers.”

 (KCEN) --  A Temple police officer was hit on I-35 on Thursday morning. Around 8 a.m., a Temple police officer pulled a vehicle over and was hit by another vehicle on I-35 northbound.

The accident happened near mile marker 296 in Belton.

Officer Chris Wilcox said that the police officer was on his motorcycle when he pulled someone over on a traffic stop. As he was heading back to his motorcycle, two nearby vehicles collided and one of them struck the officer.

The officer was thrown 20 feet but was wearing his helmet and protective gear.

Three people, including the officer, were sent to Scott & White Hospital. The officer is believed to be okay. No word on the two others that were taken to the hospital.

It took over three hours to completely clear the wreck.
