Hurricane Arthur continues to impact the East Coast

(CNN)- Hurricane Arthur is pounding the North Carolina coast this morning as it makes its way up the eastern sea board. The storm made landfall as a category 2 hurricane last night. The first named hurricane of the season packed 100-mile-an-hour winds and dumped several inches of rain on eastern North Carolina. Nearly 18,000 customers along the North Carolina coast are without power this morning.

Anticipating Arthur's path up the East Coast, officials in Boston chose to hold their annual July Fourth concert and fireworks celebration a day early. While other northeast cities may see some wind and rain today, New York City's annual fireworks show is expected to go on as scheduled.

This is the first hurricane to make landfall in the United States since Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
